Mince pies are one of the things I miss the most about living in the UK. They seem to be everywhere this time of year there and nowhere to be found here in Moscow. One place and time you can get hold of them though is the annual Christmas bazaar at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, hidden in a quiet lane in the city centre. Certainly, I couldn’t miss the occasion yesterday, but this time I got myself a jar of mincemeat rather than a mince pie. When I asked the English lady who’d made it about the expiry date, she said it has none since ‘there’s so much alcohol in it’. Anyway, this will be the first (and long awaited) step towards making my own mince pies. The next would be making mincemeat by myself too, which is believed to be the tricky part. Well, one step at a time. We have all the time in the world…
