The other day I came across an article entitled ‘100 ways to slightly improve your life without really trying’. It appeared on the Guardian website on 1 January 2022 and ‘was inspired by a similar exercise published in Weekend magazine in January 2000’. Certainly, not all the tips felt relatable. However, there were quite a few I found interesting – some that I was glad to note I already follow, knowingly or not, and some that I would like to try making part of my routine, straightaway or in the future. For example, if some day I found myself living in a house with the kitchen sink facing a window, I could make use of number 9: ‘Keep a bird feeder by a window, ideally the kitchen. It’ll pass the time when you’re washing up.’ It reminded me of the house I stayed at when I was in Bournemouth in the summer of 2019. Through the window you can see the back yard, where my host family held lovely parties, one of which I was lucky to join. You can also note that my host mother, Sylvia, kept a pot of fresh basil on the windowsill – another item I would add to the list in question. And by the way, the house was situated in Verona Street, much to my delight.
What about you? Would you like to try out any of the advice?
